Embedding the Philosophy

For the first half of the Spring term staff meetings were dedicated to working collaboratively to compile child-friendly statements linked to each area of B.E.C.O.M.E. These formed part of class B.E.C.O.M.E. displays. An area was focused on each week, starting with Bravery, with activities and assemblies planned around each theme.

An art competition focused on Creativity and challenged pupils to design images for each of the B.E.C.O.M.E. words. Winners worked with an artist to create canvases to be displayed around school.

Each area has since been revisited in assemblies and the B.E.C.O.M.E. displays are used as working walls to promote the skills, with examples of ways in which pupils have demonstrated them. Pupils have also been given ‘Hero’ back-packs which contain aids to promote independence in their learning. Our corridors are adorned with photographs of B.E.C.O.M.E. in action!

Our next steps with this project will be to look at ways to further embed these ‘Hero’ skills and weave them into our curriculum.
